I haven’t actually posted very much lately – in fact, RL has been getting in the way of SL quite a bit, thanks to an enormous project coming towards its deadline. I’ve got one more day of lots of work, which should be followed by a bit of “kicking back and relaxing” time.

The big news from SL is that I’ve quit escorting. I just haven’t had the time to put enough hours in to make it worthwhile, and to be honest I’ve got more than a little bored of it too.

So I’ve been spending my time in SL making things instead of fucking things – although inevitably, me being me, the things that I’ve been making have had a decent amount to do with sex. More especially, BDSM – I’ve been making cages and racks for your bondage pleasure!

We’ve just moved house, which, thanks to BT being a bit rubbish, means that we’re without Internet connection (well, there’s dial up, but that barely counts). “But”, you might ask, “how the hell are you posting if you’re without internet?” Thanks to a kindly neighbour who’s left his WiFi open. It’s a bit flaky – too flaky for Second Life, for one thing – but enough for email, light web browsing, and the odd post or two.

It’ll take a few days for the broadband connection to show up, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a good opportunity for me to brush up on my 3D modelling skills with the very marvellous Google SketchUp, and to actually go through some of the tutorials instead of rushing headlong into making things as I usually do. I’ve already discovered a few things that I didn’t know about.

Second Life is, at the moment, pretty much broken. It hits 35,000 users and BOOM, your clothes fall off (not necessarily a bad thing), you can’t teleport, you can’t log off because if you do you won’t be able to log on.

And in response to this utter crap, Linden Labs gives us… Voice. Thanks guys. now fix the fucking grid already.

Clubs in Second Life are largely a lot like clubs in real life: there’s an awful lot of tacky discos believing their own hype.

Glam Scum looks like it’s going to be a bit different, thanks to a policy of getting decent DJs (this evening, for example, Ferry Corsten did a set) and a very nice build. It’ll be good to see the regular clubs get some decent competition.

Of course, the big problem is that even the best sims at the moment can’t cope with many more than 50 people without dying – which means you get a lot of people who can’t get in. But time, and technology, will probably solve that one.

My friend Bug is a vertifiable genius. I’ve known her since one of the first times I ventured into Second Life. We met in an alley, and it went uphill from there.

Bug’s always been a creator of things, but until recently she didn’t sell stuff. “No, it’s not good enough” she’d say, or make some other excuse. Then when I finally got the land that I’m currently living on, I built her a little store and made it a fait accompli – she had the store, so she had to start selling things.

And sell things she has – thousands of Linden dollar’s worth of latex suits, mostly. But she’s also been selling this:

Somthing that I hope I never meet on a dark night.

I’m actually dreading that a client will turn up with one. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop laughing if they do.

Integral Danton’s new shack in the middle of nowhere. Come buy his stuff, tip him and all that jazz.
